Peaky Blinders : "By the order of Peaky Blinders"
Peaky Blinders is a British period crime drama television series created by Steven Knight. Set in Birmingham, England, the series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family in the direct aftermath of the First World War. The fictional family is loosely based on a real 19th-century urban youth gang of the same name, who were active in the city from the 1890s to the early twentieth century.
Peaky Blinders features an ensemble cast, led by Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Joe Cole and Paul Anderson starring as Tommy Shelby, Elizabeth "Polly" Gray, John Shelby and Arthur Shelby respectively, the gang's senior members. Sam Neill, Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Charlotte Riley, Sam Claflin and Anya Taylor-Joy also have recurring roles at various junctures of the series. The series premiered on 12 September 2013, telecast on BBC Two until the fourth season, and then shifted to BBC One for the fifth season.
In 2018, after the show's Drama Series win at the BAFTA TV Awards, Knight confirmed his "ambition of making it a story of a family between two wars, and by ending it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham", which was 25 June 1940. After the conclusion of the fourth series, he confirmed that it would take another three series (seven in total) to complete the story up to that point. The fifth series premiered on BBC One on 25 August 2019 and finished on 22 September 2019. Netflix, under the deal with Weinstein Company and Endemol, had acquired the rights to air Peaky Blinders in America and around the world.
The most Manliest series I ever watched.Such a great fan of thomas shelby. I would like to point out that Tommy's love interest, Grace, and their entire relationship, gives you an overall perspective of what is "classy british romance" at it's finest. As oldschool as it gets, this series has everything from thrill, to crime, to drama, to sorrow, to opening up your mind, on a whole new level. Peaky Blinders stands out from the other Gangster series, because there is something soothing and peaceful about it. The cinematography is so amazing, it keeps you interested and on the edge, the entire time. It is beautiful because crime and killings is not the only thing, it shows. It also shows top class drama, making it all the more interesting. It's totally a "feel good" series. I feel so glad I watched Peaky Bliders, and after watching so many light American sitcoms and series, when you watch something as intense and as British as this, it's going to actually connect with you, and cause you to think, opening up new perspectives. It's not one of those series you watch to have a good time, have fun and forget it the next day. It's like you actually connect to the characters and feel what they are feeling. It keeps you in the deep. The story's going to stay with you forever. Moving forward, for those who are into British accents, and British style of living, you guys will fall in love with how well knitted and beautiful the storyline, the accents, the plot and the screenplay is. Everything is British about it. Everything. That is one of the biggest factors that contributes in making Peaky Blinders, watchable, time and again, making you binge watch the entire series. Do watch it guys, it is totally worth it.
For any fan of British period films "Peaky Blinders" is a delight. Where the show excels is in its cast of strong characters, and a storyline which continues to evolve to reflect a restless period of change.
It is amidst this backdrop of social change that Peaky Blinders is set. Well paced, well written and directed :Peaky Blinders captures the action, anxieties, exciting highs and deep melancholies that seem to plague the Shelby family as they build a criminal empire comparable to Al Capone's at the height of prohibition.
With dark undercurrents Peaky Blinders is gripping, building pace till you realised you're hooked and looking forward to the next episode or season. Each season is different but flows smoothly as actions and their consequences run their course. The action is gritty, well paced and not gratuitous so that the deaths of key people do leave a mark on the viewer. However the plots are so thick that new characters come to the fore without the viewer having time to really notice.
Not often do we get a series like this. Its uncompromising look at Birmingham's crime underworld is only one aspect though as it ultimately captures the struggles of a family led by the visionary Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) seeking to emerge from their past to become something more, something....better.
